Overview

The FRED 2 project (Fraud Repression through EDucation) is an initiative led by Sapienza University in Rome, specifically its Impresapiens Research Centre, in collaboration with Italy's Guardia di Finanza and other European institutions. The project is part of efforts to combat fraud that affects the European Union's financial interests. It is co-financed by the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) under the EU Anti-Fraud Programme.

The goal of FRED 2 is to foster cooperation between national and European authorities, academic institutions, and experts in fraud prevention. It focuses on improving the exchange of information and best practices to enhance the prevention and repression of fraud, especially in the context of managing EU funds like those involved in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. A key feature of the project is the creation of a research observatory and a permanent network of experts who can monitor and analyze fraud-related risks, share knowledge, and develop preventive strategies.

This initiative marks a significant step in strengthening ties between anti-fraud authorities and academia, aiming to build a task force capable of identifying and combating fraudulent activities involving EU funds.
